"Gilgamesh or the button of eternity" Von Krahl epic
Actor Erki Laur says: ”The calculations about the date of the end of the world that we did during staging of ’The End’ turned out to be unprecise, now everything is certain.”
”Absolutely,” adds Mart Koldits.
Juhan Ulfsak’s rehearsal diary reads: "Ideally the performance deals with the bloody pilgrimages of the hero as a journey to the enlightment of thought cataclysms”.
"What does it mean to be a hero today, at the dusk of the civilisation,” asks Tiina Tauraite, mother of two sons. ”On the eve of collapse of all values known until now” add Mari Abel, Liina Vahtrik and Riina Maidre.
"It is a completely new story based on Gilgamesh and other hero epics,” explains Peeter Jalakas and adds: "we live in an exciting and volatile era as the epic form is aquiring new content and meaning. In our version the eternal search of the main character results in success but what he finds is far from what he set off to look for. As happens often in life.”
Peeter Jalakas’ great staging gives life to bloody tyranny and vitalizing love, fair anger and forbidden desire, wild adventures and intimate meditations. First of all it is about the hero, his actions and ability to accept the consequences of these. What is eternal life? Where is the switch of eternity? Does the hero live for ever or dissolve in a moment?
