„Song of Creation“ will be composed at Song of Freedom together with audience

Beloved Estonian musicians Jaak Johanson, Mari Kalkun and Jarek „Chalice“ Kasar will lead the „Song of Creation“ at the Song Festival Grounds according to the old runic song lines. It is a mix of ancient Estonian song tradition and genuine and spontaneous creation that takes place on the spot where everyone attending can join in.

„For me the eternal concept of freedom means our possibility, will and responsibility to be part of the infinite Creation – creation of Estonia, of the world. Therefore songs of creation, that haven’t been preserved by many nations in the way that we have done,“ explains the author of the idea of „Song of Creation“ Jaak Johanson. „Song of Creation“ will begin at 23:02 – the moment when Estonian Supreme Council declared Estonia’s independence 20 years ago.

The main organiser of Song of Freedom, Helen Sildna says that the programme follows the main principle that all performers and musicians have the freedom to express themselves just as they consider best. „We will give the word to Estonian musicians so that they can share the stories and songs that are on their hearts and minds.“
Artistic director of the event, programme director of Foundation Tallinn 2011 Jaanus Rohumaa adds: „This time in addition to Estonian musicians we also have many international artists on stage to thank our friends abroad who supported our aspirations of freedom.“

Song of Freedom this Saturday celebrates two important events – on the 20th of August 20 years ago Estonia declared its independence and this year Tallinn is European Capital of Culture.
„With a happy and joyful concert European Capital of Culture Tallinn wants to thank all these countries that recognised the restoration of our independence 20 years ago,“ says Jaanus Mutli, board member of Foundation Tallinn 2011.
