American beatboxer Napoleon Maddox will host an open workshop in Tallinn
Maddox, who is going to visit Estonia for the second time, promises to lose barriers between the stage and the audience at his concerts and in workshops. He is going to prove that everyone can take part in creating and performing music – all you need is the courage to try something unusual, like beatbox, which involves imitating the sounds of different musical instruments and creating new music.
Napoleon Maddox`s hometown is Cincinnati, but in recent years he has spent more and more time in Europe at the invitation of jazz festivals and jazz clubs. He is highly valued in Europe, both as a versatile musician and a teacher. Beatbox choirs have emerged in France, United Kingdom, Norway and Estonia at Maddox`s initiative and many workshop sessions have been created for teachers and pupils of public schools under his guidance. In 2009 Maddox visited around twenty Estonian schools and gave a memorable performance with an Estonian nation-wide beatbox choir in Kumu.
The “Talk_Trumm-It” project was founded in order to offer the young people participating in the Trumm-It drum orchestra and Tallinn youth centres` hobby groups an opportunity to meet acknowledged professionals from different fields.
In order to offer young people a change to the weekly percussion lessons and daily school routine, “Talk_Trumm-It” events do not discuss drumming or complex mathematical equations. Lecture and workshop topics are related to the profession or hobby of every speaker and they give useful tips on awakening creativity, finding and using talents, working in groups, understanding foreign cultures and nations and why not also about how to avoid blushing on the podium.
Participation in Talk_Trumm-It sessions is free of charge, registration in compulsory.
