Bicycle Parade will open the European Capital of Culture to the sea

The Bicycle Parade will be the culmination of Tallinn Bicycle Week that takes place 1-5 June. It is not a bike race or sports event but the aim of the bike journey through the city is to give bicycle riders a chance to show that they are important participants in city traffic as well. “Bicycles are getting more and more popular as traffic means in the city. In the outskirts of Tallinn new bicycle roads are being built constantly and traffic education takes place, unfortunately in town centre we don’t see many cyclists and cycling is being considered dangerous. Bicycle parade aims to value and notice cyclists in the town centre and promote changes in street space and traffic regulation so that it would be safer to cycle,” says Hando Jaksi, organiser of Bicycle Parade.

On 5th of June from 12.00 to 13.00 all motorised traffic will be stopped on the route from Freedom Square over Pärnu Road and Mere Avenue towards Linnahall at the seashore to allow safe ride for participants at the family event. Registration will start on Freedom Square at 10 am.

The Bicycle Parade will finish on the parking lot between Linnahall and EKKM (CAME) where a big bicycle market and many bicycle themed activities will take place for adults and children. As part of promoting cycling in the city there will be games related to cycling in traffic and road safety as well as activities led by police and Estonian Red Cross to increase awareness of safety requirements of cycling in the city.
