Composer in residence - Mirjam Tally in Pirita

Mirjam Tally’s residency in Pirita started on Saturday, 8 January during the winter swimming festival Pirita Open 2011 in Pirita River. On Wednesday, 12 January  Mirjam Tally’s music will be performed at Pirita Convent by ensemble Resonabilis and accordionist Sirje Mõttus, Indrek Hirv will cite poetry. On Friday 14 January Mirjam Tally will meet the students at Pirita High school.

Mirjam Tally has composed chamber and electronic music, lately her orchestra compositions have stood out. Mirjam - who in the past walked the streets of Pirita - today lives in Gotland and is part of Swedish music life as well as Estonian.

There are many composers in Estonia, who while acting on world stages, for us still remain Mirjam, Tanja, Märt-Matis, Piret, Tauno, Erkki-Sven, Urmas and Tõnu. Often their music is still inspired by their heritage – why not the districts of Tallinn. During the year of European Capital of Culture they will spread the inspiration in districts of Tallinn.

Every district is also a topic of an art project related to the city space. Jaanus Samma will present Pirita district in his photo series from an unusual angle.

The next composers in residence will be Tatjana Kozlova in North-Tallinn (February), Märt-Matis Lill in Mustamäe (March), Piret Rips-Laul in Kristiine (April), Tauno Aints in Haabersti (May), Erkki-Sven Tüür in Central Tallinn (September), Urmas Sisask in Lasnamäe (October) and Tõnu Kõrvits (November).
