Tallinn 2011 welcomes you to Tallinn Month of Photography!

The programme of Tallinn Month of Photography includes exhibitions, events, lectures and film screenings. The highlights of the festival are: solo show by Boris Mikhailov in Tallinn Art Hall, group exhibitions BEYOND (Look at my face: my name is Might Have Been; I am also called No More, Too Late, Farewell.) curated by Adam Budak (AT) in Kumu Art Museum and Generation of the Place: Image, Memory and Fiction in the Baltics curated by Vytautas Michelkevičius (LT) in Tallinn Art Hall, photo film festival with special guest Gusztáv Hámos (DE), apartment exhibitions and many other exhibitions and events.
The main theme of the festival, Natural Magic, is derived from Latin term magia naturalis. It refers to laws of optics, the very physical origin of the image but also involves another, a more poetic meaning, describing the fascination of photographic image and the experience of looking.  Through the exhibitions in the festival programme, different features of the photographic media are explored – its conditions and functioning, its relation to the space and time.

The events of festival – lectures, film screenings and guided tours – are aimed to emphasise the critical potential of the image and the importance of image reading skills.
“With our festival, we would like to stimulate the local field of lens-based art, encourage people to think about photo and understand it better, and most importantly, provide a great programme by involving internationally recognised photography and video art professionals,” says Marge Monko, the artistic director of Tallinn Month of Photography.
