European Capital of Culture Tallinn Will Host Choirs from the Japanese Catastrophe Area

Along with the choirs the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee, an organization made up of Japanese entrepreneurs, is coming to Estonia. It is concentrating on developing the cultural and economic relations between European countries and Japan by cooperating with European Capitals of Culture. In Tallinn’s cultural programme there are several big projects supported by the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee. “Thanks to their contribution our programme has undoubtedly turned out to be more colorful and diverse,” said Jaanus Mutli, the board member of the Foundation Tallinn 2011.

The leader of the delegation that combines the Japanese entrepreneurs and the board chairman of Toray Industries, Sadayuki Sakakibara, expressed hope that the cooperation between Estonia and Japan will continue after the European Capital of Culture title is forwarded to other cities. This is the reason why they are meeting with Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, Economic Affairs and Communications Minister Juhan Parts, members of Tallinn city government and Estonian cultural figures in Tallinn.

In order to celebrate the fruitful cooperation that has lasted for two years, the Foundation Tallinn 2011 and the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee will organize a free friendship concert on September 23 at 18.30 in Mustpeade Maja. In addition to Japanese choirs, the Estonian TV Girls’ Choir, Chamber Choir of Tallinn University and the children and youth choirs from Viimsi High School will also perform. The art director of the concert is Aarne Saluveer.
