European Capitals of Culture Tallinn and Turku invite to the club party „Night Moves“

The two European Capitals of Culture, Turku 2011 and Tallinn 2011, present Night Moves - a pulsating clubbing experience with the top acts from both cities.

The birthplace of Pan sonic and Sähkö, Turku has an extensive background in being the hub of electronic music  in Finland - since the experiments of the underground movement of the 60’s to Finland´s first ware house raves in the late 80’s, and up to today’s vibrant, constantly developing club scene.

This Friday, 11 March also Estonians can be part of this success stories as Turku will present in Tallinn’s F-Hoone the best of Finnish club music: Jori Hulkkonen (live), DJ Ionik and VJ Beige/Harmaa.

With releases in the last two decades exploring 360 degrees on the musical radar, Jori Hulkkonen has been hailed as the most underrated producer in the world, living legend of electronic composition and music's best kept secret.

Since the debut twelve-inch in 1993, Hulkkonen has released ten albums for F Communications and more recently Turbo Recordings, including collaborations with such people as John Foxx, José González and Tiga. Furthermore, Hulkkonen is undoubtedly one of Finland's most accomplished and active DJ's, heard both in clubs and on radio waves.

Turku's DJ Ionik has been a mainstay on the Finnish club music scene for years, but has just recently gained international acclaim through his labels Traveller Records and Kojak Giant Sounds. The latter particularly has gained a cult of followers among disco and dance music enthusiasts with its open-minded but consistent release policy, and the hype seems to be growing with each new release.

The VJ team Beige/Harmaa (Antti Hietaniemi and Sami Smith) have provided visuals for a huge bunch of club nights and festivals. However, they do not limit their work to Finnish venues only: among other events, a collaboration tour with the leading Finnish illustration agency Pekka took place in China in late 2010.

The Finnish club music stars will be supported in the F-Hoone by Mustad Noodid (live), Plektrum DJ-s Alari Orav and Jaagup Jalakas and VJ Propaganda.

“Night Moves” of the Club 2011 series is part of the programme of European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011 and is a co-production of Turku 2011, Tallinn 2011, Turku Modern and Plektrum Festival.

In 2010, Turku 2011 organized together with Turku Modern a series of club events to showcase contemporary Finnish club music, and to promote the European Cultural Capital Year. The Night Moves – Club Hopping with Turku 2011 tour kicked off at Shanghai World Expo in May, and during the year clubbers were hopping in Helsinki, Turku, London, Stockholm, Tampere and Paris.

In Helsinki, in June the Night Moves club hosted Tallinn's best talent of electronic beat along with top Finnish club acts. The Night Moves tour culminates in Tallinn on Friday 11th of March as the two capitals of culture collaborate again to meet in F-Hoone's jointly produced club event, another night of throbbing electronic galore not to be missed.
