The History of the Curated Expedition Competition

Curated ExpeditionThe joint project of Tallinn and Turku, European Capitals of Culture 2011, is a continuation of the first interdisciplinary expedition of Capsula from Finland to the full solar eclipse zone in Siberia in summer 2008. The expedition base was in the Novosibirsk Zoo, where the trip continued to the Altai Mountains and to the Moon.

The participants of the project were Agnes Meyer-Brandis, a German media artist, Mireia C. Saladrigues, a Catalonian artist, and Tommi Taipale, a Finnish photographer, plus Ulla Taipale, the curator and cultural producer.

The project resulted in three new works of art which were first presented on the “Tutkimusmatka Auringonpimennykseen” (Expedition to Solar Eclipse) Exhibition at the Kiasma Mediatheque within the “Pixelache” additional programme from 6 March to 7 June 2009.

The exhibition and the “Solar Eclipse” event at the Kiasma Theatre and URSA Observatory in Kaivopuisto formed a part of the International Astronomy programme in 2009.
