Interactive exhibition “Discover Estonian Mythical Creatures!” open at the Science Centre Energy
Estonian old and new myths will be brought to the visitors through interactivity for discovering and testing. In order to introduce mythical creatures, the organizers have kept in mind what makes these creatures unique and solve their uniqueness with modern technological means.
Thus the jaw of Põhja konn (Northern frog – a supernatural creature from an old tale) moves thanks to compressed air and the Spirit of Tartu is made visible with the help of a computer program. The visitors can also see the real face of a mermaid, how swamp monster evolves, the power of northern lights, spirit birds and feel the staring of a secret eye and darkness monsters.
The Science Centre Energy collected modern myths from Estonian school children and these were assembled together into a small book for the visitors to read. All texts and additional material about the exhibition are available in Russian and English, as common to the Culture Capital year.
There is also a workshop for small children where with the help of an instructor children can each make their own mythical creature. Every child gets to take the creature home. In order to participate in the workshops, visitors are asked to register in advance (phone no 71 52 650).
The exhibition was put together and built by the Science Centre Energy. Its supporters in addition to the Foundation Tallinn 2011 are the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, Sadolin and Tallinn Zoo.
