Mind-boggling SIGNA invites to casting
From today the applications website of SIGNA’s new project www.facebook.com/signa2011 is online. This gives an introduction to the essence of SIGNA and the rules of the game and is a platform for the electronic application to participate. There are no limits for applicants, the main criterion being fluency in English. The applicants should be able to participate in all rehearsals, seminars and performances; candidates are expected to be trustworthy, understanding, mentally balanced and team players.
The leaders of SIGNA Arthur Köstler and Thomas Bo Nilsson stress that their participatory theatre is meant for everyone who want to put themselves to test in an innovative project that extends the limits of perception. „We are not looking for a certain type of people but we work with all nationalities in spite of looks, age and profession. Everyone’s stake is equal and everyone is being paid by us equally,“ explains Arthur Köstler.
After sorting through the applications SIGNA will invite the first chosen ones to casting already next week on 4th and 5th October at the Standard building (Kopli 25) 9th floor. „We will just have a chat and will try to understand what kind of a person you are. There is no need to prepare something but we presume that you are familiar with the rules of the game and our website www.signa.dk,“ adds Köstler. SIGNA never looks for actors for ready-made roles but rather the roles will be created for the chosen actors.
The rehearsals will take place from 25.–29. October, 15.–26. November (except 20. November) and 6.–7. December. „As we are not using a script our rehearsals are different from traditional theatre. Our work is based on improvisation in the framework of a fixed up fiction. The majority of preparation is talking to each other and working together to create a fictional reality. Actors will often get homework,“ Köstler introduces the rehearsals period.
The performances will take place in Standard building from 8.–15. December.
The works by SIGNA are among the most unusual and innovative art and theatre projects in Scandinavia. SIGNA’s creations are place specific, they reword and redirect abandoned buildings and empty campuses, while creating enigmatic timeless environments where the audience can dive in in search for experiences for longer or shorter period of time.
The elements of pop culture, entertainment and film industry are mixed in SIGNA’s works and all this is face to face with the reality. SIGNA creates true participatory theatre. Maybe the viewer has never been so free and at the same time so manipulated like in SIGNA’s parallel world. The thrill of their weird world will remain in Tallinn for the whole winter.
SIGNA project is being presented by European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011.
