The closing ceremony of Tallinn 2011 will end with a spectacular fire show in the heart of the city

Today, on 22 December the performance of the unique musical composition “Song of the Tower Bells” and the following concert will be concluded by a fire show on Harju Hill (Harjumägi). The year as European Capital of Culture in Tallinn will finish on 22 December with an intense programme at the seashore and in city centre. As part of ’Happy End’ a unique one and only screening of ’60 Seconds of Solitude’ will take place at Tallinn harbour, a new composition by Margo Kõlar ’Song of the Tower Bells’ will sound on Freedom Square accompanied by a 3D video projection on the facade of St John’s church.

Maritime Days breathe new life into Tallinn’s waters

Tallinn’s Maritime Days festival, which came to a close late last night with a Geriljakino screening on the roof of the Linnahall building, saw three of the capital’s ports and harbours crowded with citysiders – who had come to take a look at the boats and ships on display, enjoy the sights of the Cultural Kilometre and attend the concerts taking place as part of the festival. As expected, the Krusenstern proved to be its most popular attraction, with 18,000 people admiring the vessel.

A unique dance project TeateTants starts on 20 August at 9.30 from Tallinn Town Hall Square

On 20-28 August 2011, thousands of Estonian folk dance enthusiasts will perform a relay dance, with different groups dancing non-stop for eight days and nights, covering all Estonia’s counties. A happening opened NO99 Theatre’s Straw Theatre on 30 April. Theatre NO99 has put on one-time happenings before in its large hall and has created them on the principle that the event would be sensitive in terms of time and place, and that its poetry would lie in the moment: it is not possible to repeat it any more anywhere else nor at any other time. „Mapping“, an exhibition that introduces outstanding art works from the Ljubljana Biennials of Graphic Arts, belonging to the International Centre of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana will be open to public on January 2 in Kumu Art Museum, Tallinn. „Mapping“ is an accompaning exhibition of the 15th Tallinn Print Triennial that opens on January 20 and is part of the European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011 programme.

Tallinn 2011 – European Capital of Culture is inviting everyone in Tallinn to don their aprons and do their bit as part of the 'What's Cooking?' initiative, in which hospitable locals will welcome guests of the European Film Academy awards – the cream of the continent's cinema industry – into their homes and into their kitchens.

This unique event, a first in European cinema, will serve as something of an entrée to the film gala being held at the Nokia Concert Hall in Tallinn on 4 December, and will also usher in the city's year as European Capital of Culture.

Former seaplane hangars to become new home for Lembit submarine

The seaplane hangars at the Lennusadama port in Tallinn owned by the Estonian Maritime Museum are themselves to become a museum whose central exhibit will be the submarine Lembit. Having stood empty for years, the hangars will be fully renovated by 2011. The Maritime Museum will be revealing its plans to the public on 22 September.
