Tallinn 2011 – European Capital of Culture presents: NEXT TO NOTHING in CAME
A large number of works have been created especially for this exhibition, others adapted and many will be on show for the first time in Estonia.
While the White Cube has the magic power to transform everything into art, former industrial buildings tend to lose the art in them. The exhibition is a test case to find out how this kind of hyper minimalistic, almost hermetic art can handle the challenge of a space situation that is all but art friendly.
As CAME can only put on exhibitions during the summer, it is almost strange to call it a summer exhibition, but that’s what it essentially is. This kind of shows have a certain lightweight air about them that in this case is part of the concept determined by the laconic expression of the artists and their contextual relations to the exhibition space.
Curator of the show Anders Härm: “The participating artists deliver messages from the landscapes between one and zero, „being and nothing“, where the emerging questions are rather existentialist. But we cannot exclude political, psychosocial and phenomenological interpretations either that might appear discreetly. “
