The Jewellery of õhuLoss Will Sparkle in the Lighthouse
The exhibition in Põhjatuletorn is part of the European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011 programme and is the first appearance of õhuLoss /Spatial Palace/ in Tallinn. Previously the same group has shown their works in Holland, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Germany and China. Besides Tallinn, õhuLoss will also land in France and Italy.
Around one hundred pieces of jewellery are exposed in Tallinna Põhjatuletorn, accompanied by music composed by Janek Murd. The exhibition closes on September 25 at 16-19 with the finissage, which is part of the Design Night, and the artists will also be present to reveal the worlds behind their works.
Spanish art theoretician Mónica Gaspar has said: ''Many artists of õhuLoss prefer to make jewellery which is a bit confusing, which floats and plays in spacetime. The pieces of art bring forth some sort of echo from the past, but the materials are shocking enough to bring us into modern day without hesitation. The value of the works lies in their great power to inspire, which makes their observer extremely alert.''
Simultaneously with the exhibition, a 300 page book of the creations of õhuLoss will be issued and internationally distributed by an important German artbooks publishing house, Arnoldsche Art Publishers.
The exhibition and the book are supported by the Foundation Tallinn 2011, Eesti Kultuurkapital and the Estonian Artists' Association.
